1. Yoga classes

Hatha Yoga – in this style of yoga the focus is on being in a posture, improving and progressing in each of them separately and connecting with the feelings and sensations around the body while you are holding the posture. So the postures are mostly done separately from one another and there is usually a small pause to relax between each of them. Each class is always slightly different to introduce variety, but those who come regularly will be able to progress in the key postures that are foundation of the style. There is always a mix of standing postures, balance work and floor based postures. We always start and finish with a guided relaxation in savasana.
Vinyasa flow – in this class the emphasis is on linking the movements together into a harmonious flow of postures. It is dynamic yet soft in nature, but relaxation is often reserved to the end of the session. Equally the classes always vary but build on core postures do develop strength an flexibility.

2. Core strengthening classes

It’s a mix of the most effective moves from yoga, Pilates and fitness domaines specifically targeting the muscles to develop strong and healthy core. This would be similar to a high intensity yoga class in style but not a purely yoga class in nature.

3. Bootcamp classes with a yogic twist

These are mostly fitness style classes with yoga postures mixed in to make the session more effective. Main focus is on fast results to increase general fitness, lose weight and develop muscle strength. These are held outdoors in the park.

4. Studio based fitness classes

DANZA ‘n shape

A fun way to improve your physical fitness with dance moves from different kinds of styles, mostly varying from salsa, merengue, dancehall and hip hop. Mandatory in the classes is: shake your bum and have lots of fun! The dance level varies from easy to challenging steps so anyone can join.

COMBAT ‘n shape

In this class we take it to the next level! With several kinds of martial arts pushing you to the limit, this is your high impact training. There will be kicks, jabs, jumping jacks and every battle move there is to help shape a fitter version of you.

YOGALATES’n shape

Using elements of yoga and pilates, this class will help improve your posture, improve your core stability and (re)gain flexibility. You determine your own intensity, so this class is suitable for multiple levels.

More details about the classes

1.  Yoga

What to expect from a Hatha Yoga Class

Hatha yoga style incorporates a series of isolated postures (yoga asanas) that are held for between 30sec and 3mins. With rest in between. This style of class always incorporates deep relaxation and breathing exercises in addition to the practice of yoga asanas (yoga postures).

My ‘home school’ and primary influence of my teachers during gaining my qualification is Hatha Sivananda yoga style. However, I aim to teach a varied mix of lessons to continually evolve the classes, build on our practice and introduce variety. I also have some colleagues who teach different yoga styles who I plan to invite as guest teachers at a later stage.

What to expect from a Vinyasa flow class:

Each class opens with a theme and continues with variations of sun salutations, core strengthening and a few standing sequences to generate heat and energy. Then, we compliment the first half by grounding the energy downward through floor work and a surrender series. Each sequence is linked to the next by transitional movements to encourage the mind to stay present in the practice and to keep the body flowing as it opens fluidly. Medium intensity, all levels welcome as modifications are offered for beginners and more advances yogis. If you work with yoga blocks, straps, or any other yoga props at home, please feel free to bring them.

What to bring with you:

I ask you to each bring your own mat. As I don’t have a car so it will be difficult for me to carry enough mats for everyone for each class. But to make it easier for people who do not currently own a yoga mat – I will have some mats available for sale at each class. It will be yours to keep and I would ask you to bring it with you to each class. The mats I can source for you are €20 each and are made from special non-toxic environmentally friendly materials.

You may wish to bring a bottle of water with you (but not necessary).

What to wear:

You are welcome to wear anything you feel comfortable in, but generally it is advised to wear cotton clothes that does not restrict your movement in any way. Yoga is practiced barefoot with no socks on but to ensure your comfort during the relaxation part or the class, you can bring a pair of socks and a jumper.

Changing facilities:

As the halls are not part of dedicated yoga centres, there are no dedicated changing facilities as such, so if you could come as ready as possible in your yoga clothes it would be great, however, due to a shape of the room in 35 Rue Saint Roch, there will be an opportunity to turn a part of a room into a space to get changed for yogis and yoginis separately. 🙂 In the facility in the 15e, you will be able to use toilets to get changed in.

Class level:

Can be adapted to all levels from beginner to intermediate, so all levels are welcome at all classes. To accommodate the needs of all students, I will provide a short introduction to yoga practice at the beginning (if there are any people who have never done it before) and explanations of exercises as we go. I will also give adaptations for certain postures to make them more or less advanced as necessary for different people. I will demonstrate all the postures in detail and my yoga practice is usually performed at a pace that will allow everyone to follow comfortably.

Languages:

If English is not your first language, I also speak French and Russian so additional explanations will be possible in those languages as well.

Health screening:

Although yoga has many very beneficial health effects, to make sure no harm is made during beginning of your practice, I will ask everyone to fill out a short health questionnaire when you come to your first class. I will use this information confidentially to adapt the exercises specifically to cater for your needs (if you have any).

2. Core strengthening classes

A strong, flexible core underpins almost everything you do and making it stronger will not only improve your fitness levels but also can dramatically improve your quality of life and get rid of several health conditions, such as lower back pain. Yoga works and strengthens our core in every posture, however, for those who put especially large demands on their core, such as spending large parts of their day sitting, – special added effort is needed to keep the area in healthy condition by continually reinforcing and developing its strength. I know the importance of this first hand (having worked in an office for 7 years during my corporate career.), so I am very pleased to introduce this new type of class. I hope you enjoy it!!

What to expect from the class:
The class will be an energetic mix of highly effective exercises from Yoga, Pilates and Fitness designed and put together with one goal in mind – to strengthen your abdominal and core areas. It is specifically designed to be challenging to enable you to progress but can be easily adapted for all levels with plenty of modifications given to make sure everyone is comfortable.

3. Bootcamp style classes with a yogic twist

A more fitness oriented sister of the traditional classes for those who wish to add a slimming and fat loss focus/ dimension to their healthy living routine or to mix their yoga with more intense fitness workouts specifically designed to develop cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and fast-track your fat loss.

The class will be a mix of 3 types of activities:
1) Bodyweight resistance training exercises. Exercises that are designed to engage maximum number of muscles in one movement, and mimic your natural functional movement patterns and hence develop your strength and fitness that would be useful in improving your quality of life (as opposed to isolated gym equipment exercises that only work on a few muscles at a time and often make you work in superficial range of motion that is rarely utilised in your day-to-day life.)

2) Yoga postures and sequences – performed in between the resistance training moves to work the muscles in a static way (which increases blood flow to that particular muscle). By bringing more nutrient-rich oxygenated blood to the area, we will promote faster muscular development, moreover, the nature of most yoga moves brings a more balanced development to all the muscles trained during the workout.

3) Cardiovascular interval training – designed to improve your Cardiovascular fitness as well as increase your body’s fat burning during and even after your workout. this will involve running, jumping, skipping, kick boxing and other fun activities

To increase its effectiveness even further by keeping your muscles and joints supple, – the class will start and finish with a yoga warm up and cool down and deep guided relaxation (weather permitting) to help you regenerate and become stronger faster.

8 week Fast Track Fat Loss Programme – guaranteed faster fat loss results. This is for those who have intense desire to look their best for the summer season or have an event to prepare for. It is also for those who like to be part of a group of motivated yogis sharing similar goals and get extra individual support and guidance from me on healthy nutrition and do-at-home class routines sent to you in online video format (so that you never miss a workout in case you cannot attend a scheduled class.)

This programme will require commitment to attending the scheduled fat loss classes minimum 3 times a week, give you access to individual nutrition consultation and diet guidance, monthly reviews of progress, and email and phone support throughout the programme. If you are interested, please let me know by email. You can join the programme any time and day of the week.

What to wear and bring with you:

This class will require you to wear trainers for the parts of it. Please wear comfortable clothes, and several layers so that they can keep you warm during the warm up and cool down, but something that you can take off during the main part as you may get a bit hot and sweaty.

Water – its recommended to bring water with you to drink during the class

Yoga mats – not necessary but it is likely to provide you more comfort during the yoga parts of the class.

Meeting place and workout place:

We will meet outside the Metro Tuileries, and then walk over to the lawns in front of the Museum des Arts Decoratifs. So for those arriving late, come find us there! any problem give me a ring on 0605965013.

Changing facilities:

As we will be exercising outdoors, there are no dedicated changing facilities. If it is possible, please come changed into your exercise clothes. If not, you may be able to use toilets in the park or the cafe (although you’ll probably need to get a cup of tea from them first) to get changed.

Class level:

Can be adapted to all levels from beginner to advanced, so all levels are welcome at all classes. I will demonstrate all exercises in detail and give different options for participants of different levels.

Languages:

If English is not your first language, I also speak French and Russian so additional explanations will be possible in those languages as well.

Health screening:

Although yoga and fitness has many very beneficial health effects, to make sure no harm is made during beginning of your practice, I will ask everyone to fill out a short health questionnaire when you come to your first class. I will use this information confidentially to adapt the exercises specifically to cater for your needs (if you have any). New questionnaires for fitness classes – As the intensity and nature of this class is different, I will have a more detailed Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire available for this class, so I will ask everyone to fill it out at the beginning.

Weather:

These classes will go ahead regardless of the weather conditions, as the nature of the class will ensure that you are warm during the activity. Sometimes it is actually quite nice to run and exercise in the rain or chilly weather because you feel all warm and nice inside, and then you’ll feel really proud of yourself for venturing out and making the most of your evening instead of opting for the sofa. 😉

Payment:

You can pay in 3 ways

1) Cash

2) Cheque

3) Bank transfer (details available upon request)
